Nicole Lockwood

Kindergarten-Fifth Grade Science and Second-Fifth Grade Garden Teacher

Nicole Lockwood has been bringing her passion for hands-on, minds-on learning to the BPC community since 2018. She loves creating experiences that spark curiosity and help students connect with the natural world. Since earning her master’s degree in education and teaching credential from City University of Seattle in 2008, Nicole worked as a public school classroom teacher, a math and science tutor, and developed curriculum for after-school science programs and camps. Prior to becoming a traditional educator, she guided hundreds of students in exploring ecosystems, watersheds, sustainability, and stewardship at Islandwood, a 250-acre outdoor education program on Bainbridge Island, WA. Currently, Nicole spends her summers teaching a tropical rainforest course for second graders through UC Berkeley’s Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP). Nicole brings a creative spirit and a love of nature, science, and learning to every class she teaches.

Why I Work with Children

Working with children keeps me on my toes and in the moment. It’s a creative outlet and requires that I am clear-headed and focused. Most of the time I am energized by the challenges that arise.

A Favorite Book

One of my favorite children’s series, is A Series of Unfortunate Events . I appreciate that they feature a girl who is an inventor, and that libraries and language play prominent roles in the stories. My son and I both have expanded our vocabularies reading these dark and delightful books together.
